Well I got Halena out the door this morning and on her way to 2nd grade! Next, it was time to pack up the other 2 munchkins and drop them off with grandma and grandpa for a few hours. Then, I headed over to Kasey's for her "Mimosas for Mom's" party! It was a great morning!!!
Afterwards, as I was eating lunch, I started reading this article about outdoor spaces/sanctuaries. In it, they suggested you convert an old commercial shipping container into an outdoor room. Well, that got my attention...until my husband reminded me that the smallest commercial container is 20 feet long, and he didn't exactly think the neighbors would appreciate us having a 20 ft. container in our backyard. Oh phooey! But, it got me thinking (this usually means trouble). I know I can't have a barn back there, as much as I'd like to, because...well...this is a residential subdivision. But, why not a garden shed? And, I mean that in the glammed up kind of way. I've wanted one for a very long time...but I always thought if I had one, it'd be for gardening...
As I walked the 5 steps from the kitchen table over to my teeny, tiny "office,"* I kept thinking...I would LOVE to have a little garden shed, a studio of sorts, in the backyard...a place to go to that was all my own...where it was quiet and peaceful...and I could be creative and get my work done!
As I jumped on the computer, these are some of the garden sheds that I found that I think would make fabulous outdoor offices...

I could get some serious blogging, I mean, work done in here...

And, of course, this office could also be used to sit in and sip some wine with my husband or girlfriends...it's always good to have a dual purpose for things, don't you think?
*I have recently started turning a small, mostly unused, closet off of my kitchen into an office space. When I'm done, I'll show you what I've come up with. My running joke is...my business is small therefore my office is small :)
I'll have to start chipping away at the hubs, to get him on board with the idea...unfortunately, this could take awhile...

Well at least you have an office even if it is small! I share a loft with two kids, all there friends, the family computer, game systems and two dogs..I would take that closet any day. Love the inspirations.. Jamie
I love the third one down, with the cathedral windows... gorgeous. I've looked some of these types of buildings at our local hardware stores. I've seen one that was small enough to contain in a small yard but big enough for the purpose I was wanting it. We've yet to call for pricing but I think it would be a nice alternative to just a room in the house... :)
I'm loving the second to last space!
I couldn't get any work done in there... I'd sit and daydream for hours I'm sure :)
Years ago, Victoria magazine featured one with french doors on one of the longer walls...so you could open it right up to the garden. It was just lovely and I've thought about it often. Your samples are very inspiring too!

What a great idea! I would take any of the garden sheds pictured, they are beautiful! I saw somewhere that you can use one of those sheds from like home depot and fix it up cute. It might not have the charm on the outside, but I'm sure you could work your magic!
Loving the sheds you found ~ especially the one with the church type windows! Good luck with hubs ~ all I got was a ghetto shed... long story that I will have to post about in the future... :o)
Oh I love them all! Wouldn't that be a fun space to create. I'm right there with ya. But up here in Minnesota...I have a feeling it wouldn't be very practical. Don't ya just love dream:)
Oooh Tracey... I have always wanted a little garden shed too... we have had garden sheds, but they were not the "fufu" kind that I wanted... that would be so much fun to decorate and sit in and drink coffee and dream..... let me know when you get one, I'll bring the coffee and treats! Julie Marie
Mimosa and mom morning outing sounded brilliant!!! And now you have me pinning for a shed!
I wish they came in an easy to assemble kit that I could whip together while the kiddos were at school and hubby would come home completely impressed! LOL

I think that's a great idea...we're actually in the process of getting ready to have a barn built on our property in the next month or so. Every girl needs her own place :o)
Entirely salivicious - all of 'em. Surely your hubs will agree??
I need the shed with the arched windows!
WOW - we are twins. WOULD LOVE a sweet shed like that (my *office in the times my in-laws aren't in town staying there....)!
Your pics are fabulous - especially of the school girl! so exciting for her....i loved my 2nd grade teacher - and invited her to my bday party! (ok, i'm a dork...)

These are absolutely gorgeous spaces! :) I wish....
Thanks so much for visiting me and for your sweet compliment!

Definitely, you deserve a place of your own, Tracey. Any of those gorgeous sheds would work very nicely. I hope you graduate from your closet office sooner than later :)
what gorgeous little shed/offices!! i would take any of them. just imagine how wonderful it would be to sit outside typing, working, or whatever with the flowers and birds. maybe you could find a shed on sale this time of year. now my mind is churning too.
oooohhhh....love the one with the big cathedral windows...and it would definitely need one of those gorgeous chandies in it

oh that checkerboard floor!! too cute!
your little missy is entirely too precious with that hip hat!

I love those sheds!! My husband is currently building one in our backyard. It will be strictly for lawnmowers and various man things but, I have final say on the outside decor of it. We are using old pane style windows we found in our basement and an old door. I scouted out some siding that looks like beadboard. I also plan on putting flower boxes under the windows next spring. My overall plan is to someday take over this space inside and out. Although my husband is unaware of these plans. Ha,ha. Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers. Traci
Oh my...those "sheds" are so beautiful! I would love to have one of those in my backyard, too:)

I think her little outfit is so so sweet!
Great idea! I love all the inspiration photos, the second yellow one really caught my eye and so did the checker board floor! I can't wait to see your little office... :)
Maybe that should be my next project :) I have wanted one my whole life...my own little club house. Trying to organize my office and failing at this point.

Hi Tracey,
Hope the little one loves school.
Ah yes, a garden shed is on my list of wants as well. These are so cool. Of course I love the one with the arched windows.
Hugs,
June
I want one :)
You can also get 10' shipping containers (called "cubes" or more affectionately, "dice"). Some of these have higher ceilings of 9'6" (rather than the standard 8'6") - called "hi-cubes". Googling hi-cube and your location should give plenty of results.
she is adorable! I have managed to fufu up Bobby G's workshed with flower boxes on the front, etc. Right now we are working on
very romantic roost as a
a chicken house. Yes...they are very old clock faces. I was so lucky to get a big box of clock parts at auction. I kept the old enamel faces and sold the other stuff on ebay. :)
Wow, I would love any of those! They look so tranquil. :)
British country living? Sounds fantastic! I'm going to have to look it up. Thanks for the idea :)
I would adore a private space like one of those! So beautiful. Right now I am just glad to have my own room...
xo,
annie
p.s. your little girl is darling!
You have just inspired my socks off!!!! Now I want to do all of those things in my cottage.....sweet~
Love all of those little cottages{sheds, studios, etc.}!!

Oh look at all those green houses. So pretty.
Oh my. Your blog is BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for coming across mine and your kind comments. I am now a regular visitor!
Blessings to your weekend!
Ahhhh! Have to have one of those! The third one with the gothic arches is too amazing!
Hi Tracey!
I would have loved to have one myself!! A nice little studio, quiet, a space just for me, oh that would have been wonderful. Right now I use our office, my man moved out earlier on but he is right back :) So you know, I really need more space for all my fabrics and a environment that allows my creativity to flow!
The ones you have found are great, I love nr. 2 and 3. Mostly because they are placed in the garden, surrounded by flowers and greenery!
And thank you blogfriend for leaving me wonderful words that gives my day a fabulous start!
Hugs Aina :)
Ahhh you now have me dreaming of gorgeous garden shed spaces... What a lovely idea!
Good luck with your office space! So exciting to have a space of your own. Decorating it will be inspirational for future enjoyment!
every one of these is just wonderful...and i look forward to seeing your current little space:)

Sell your hubs with the dual purpose rationale! He could drink brews with the boys in it. Might have to axe the beautiful chandelier in that case. Ah ha
Right outside our master bedroom we have an out building that I have been remodeling in my mind since we moved here two years ago.
It's just sitting empty, collecting spider webs. I think it would make an excellent guest cottage . . . Your collection outdoor offices is inspiring - some day.
Thank you for the inspiration to get back out and work on my little potager. I've been collecting vintage windowes, doors and othe architural elements for some time now but have not gotten the thing done. I just needed a little nudge. Thank You...will have to post photos when complete.
These are wonderful! I'd love one to serve as my office/studio.
