It doesn't happen very often, but every now and again, I tackle a craft project...don't get me wrong, I love doing craft projects...it's just that I'm not necessarily good at crafting, nor do I really have the time to devote to it...I think of myself as a "crafter wanna be!"
At any rate, my 5 year old son and I decided to make some little houses out of empty milk/cream containers. We used vintage wallpaper and scrapbook paper to cover the containers (I cut, he glued), and then we (mostly me) embellished them a bit...Aren't they cute??!
I found this idea in one of my Christmas books. You can make the houses look more like bird houses and hang them from your tree or you can make them into more of a little village. We {kind of} had fun setting our village up with my bird candles and some fake snow and buttons (love those white buttons!)...to quote my son:
"It's kind of like playing with my Thomas engines...just not as much fun..."
Hmmm...
If you look closely, you will see my son's handiwork amongst the snow and buttons...little bird punch outs...I bought a Martha Stewart craft punch recently (see crafter wanna be) and my son has taken a real liking to it...actually so have I...I can't help it, it's just so much fun to make perfect little birds from the pages of old books! It's embarrassing to say, but we actually fight over who gets to use it!! Santa, if you're listening, we need another craft punch please!
Thanks for putting up with our little craft project...dare I say it, but I do have more projects to show you...but I'll save those for another day :)
And the winner of my giveaway is Annie from Firefly Hill Designs!!! Email me your address Annie and I will get your goodies right out to you! A big thank you to everyone for participating in my giveaway!! You girls are simply the best!!!
If you would like a chance to win some beautiful jewelry and a craft book, head on over to my friend Jamie's giveaway over at Simply Me Art...but hurry, today (Thursday) is the last day to enter!
Enjoy your weekend!!!

How cute are those? What sweet memories you and your son made. Even if they weren't in the shape of Thomas the train.... ;)
Love your creations! I think we, the blog readers, need to be taken on a little journey around your home again ... a Christmas version of snippits of the fabulous touches in your home!?!? ;)
Happy Thursday! (is this week flying by? or is it just me....)
I have saved 2 detergent boxes - and soon will be houses as well - not as cute as yours I'm afraid....

Michael's??
Oh' Tracy, aren't those just to cute! They are precious. Now I just have to have one of those bird punches.
Hugs...Tracy :)
How sweet the little houses.
Tracy, your houses are just wonderful. I think our ability to "craft" well sometimes is affected by our lack of "time". It's great that your son was there to help. The two of you did a beautiful job! Can't wait to see what else you've been up to!
Debra
What a sweet project - I've been thinking of trying the mini glitter houses. It's hard to make craft projects that you have one vision of, but the kids have another. Your houses are adorable. keep going, it motivates me!!
Well We shall now call you Ms. Crafty, what a Beautiful Job. I love it.. You need to Craft more often. Thank you for the shout out too, You are too Sweet. xo Jamie
Tracey -- I absolutely LOVE those little cottages. And the Martha punches ... WOW! I must have missed that wonderful bird ... now I HAVE to stop at Michael's and see if they have it. Just got one of those punch around the sheet sets and playing with it ... too much fun - so I can see why you "fight" over who gets to use it!
Congrats to the winner of your giveaway, and thanks for visiting my blog.
Hugs and have a super day!

Oh Tracey, I love the little houses that you and your son made. They are so cute.I have to say that I love the last photograph of the buttons with the little bird. You're a very good Mum to sit and craft with your son. It takes a great deal of patience !!!! XXXX
Well....if that's a "wanna be" creation then keep being a "crafter wanna be" because those ARE THE CUTEST THINGS!!!!!!! And that punch? Divine!!! I hope Santa's reading your request - I'm thinking there can't BE too many of those laying around!!! Oh, and maybe he'll find a Thomas one too?
;-D Cute FOR SURE!!!

This is very inspiring and what beautiful results! I love little boys and their points of reference - at least it was in the running with Thomas!
--Vicki K.
I love your little village Tracey! And it brought back some fond memories of the village I made with my children (now 17,19, 22). We used milk cartons and an oatmeal box and covered them w/bark, moss etc. Made waxed paper windows and set them on a bed of moss. I still have them, and it's still one of our favorite decorations.
