Bonjour! Parlez-vous anglais? Oh good, because my French is not so fabulous...parlez-vous anglais was the one line I perfected quickly when we arrived in Paris! My hubby, on the other hand, really did try to speak the language and I was very impressed! He also managed to get us on and off of the Metro many times inorder for us to really explore all areas of the city...and never once did we wind up on the wrong train!! I could never have done it myself as I am completely, shall we say, directionally challenged?!
Before we check out some of the sights of the city, let's stop in to Le Mistral for some cafe au lait...
and this...
I'm embarrassed to tell you how many Nutella crepes I had in the first two days we were in Paris! I can tell you that Le Mistral made them the best! LOTS of Nutella, just how I like it :)
Now let me take you around "our neighborhood"...
This lovely view was one block away from our hotel, The Britannique, which had such a great location for everything. At night, we could see the Eiffel Tower all lit up...very romantic!
On our first full day, we decided to walk to Notre Dame since it was fairly close to our hotel and one of the number one things I wanted to see while in Paris...
It was crowded, but well worth seeing! We lucked out and had sunny weather in the 60's the whole time we were in Paris, so I didn't mind waiting in line to get into places. The outside of the building was so beautiful, I had to just stand there and take it all in for awhile!!
{When I was reviewing photos the other day, and noticed the odd sun spot on the above photo, I told my husband that maybe it was an angel hanging around the church and that's how it came out in the picture...you never know!}
I wish that I could have captured just how incredible the inside of the church was, but they did not want anyone using flash photography and the lighting in there was obviously very dim. Upon entering, I was moved to tears...it was such a holy place to be, and I feel truly blessed to have experienced it. I lit a candle at the Saint Therese statue for my children.
As we left the church, I was beyond delighted to stumble across an amazing outdoor French flower market!
Being that I love to garden, this was a lot of fun for me :) I couldn't believe how perfect all of the plants were...none of them wilted or damaged like a lot of the plants I find at the nursery I go to. Apparently, Paris doesn't get the mighttime frost that we get here in the Midwest during April, so they are able to plant things much earlier than we are...that made me a tad bit jealous!
Our day finished up with dinner at Le Zimmer, which was literally right across the street from our hotel. The food was wonderful and with it being so convenient, we ate there on more than one occassion...
Oopse, how'd that get in there?! Okay, maybe I needed a small "snack" before dinner, you know the French eat dinner at 8:00 at night and that was a bit late for me :)
Here's Le Zimmer...
The cafes and brasseries in Paris really are a wonderful part of the French lifestyle!
Of course I didn't forget about announcing the giveaway winner...it's Shellagh from Ticking and Toile! I wish I could say I had time to photograph the goodies going out to her, but my weekend was jam packed with gardening and trying to get caught up on things. So I'll just list them for you. They are all like items to what I kept for myself, so when I photograph my own items for you, you'll see what she is receiving!
Giveaway package includes: a large vintage French grain sack in burlap, an old French button card with 24 mother of pearl white buttons, an old French postcard, the latest copy of one of my favorite French decorating magazines, and a beautiful book of French "poetes" from the 1800s! Thank you to everyone who participated in my giveaway, I really do wish I could have brought something back for ALL of you!!!
Happy new week!!!
Tracey

thank you tracey: Paris is such an incredible city...
Isn't it AMAZING the beauty that you find in Paris (and many European cities) on the outside of buildings, as well as the inside? Those doors are a wonderful example of this....so much to take in, EVERYWHERE! I think the most fun thing to do on a trip like yours might be just to sit outside in the sun with a glass of something delicious and just WATCH the world go by....Thanks for sharing your lovely pictures! xx P&H
Hi, aaach Paris, reminded me memories of the time when I visited this beautiful city. Thanks. Iva
Incredible photos. What a wonderful find that flower shop. My, I'm so jealous.
Oh.so.lovely...Thanks for taking me on a virtual journey this morning! I would LOVE to see Notre Dame. I am a teacher and when we were studying the Renaissance we studied about Notre Dame and the rosette windows. Oh how I long to see them for myself! Maybe someday!

Your photos are great Tracey, thanks for giving us all the details, love it all and makes me want to go back (once the volcano stuff is all over with of course).

Happy Monday to you.

Such gorgeous photos, Tracey!! I can only imagine how beautiful it is in person!:-)
My mom and Dad lived in Europe when they were newly married. They loved Paris. When we were growing up, they would bring out the slides from time to time and share their stories with me and my sister. Your photos brought back some wonderful childhood memories. Thank You!!!

Tracey, I am so enjoying your photos of Paris. I used to go to Mass on Sundays at Notre Dame when I lived in Paris (for three years). I also used to buy flowers for my balcony at that very same flower market. I loved browsing there on a Sunday, after Mass...

Beautiful pictures, Tracey! I would love to have one café au lait and one crêpe right away. The ones with Nutella are my favorites as well. So yummy! The view from your hotel was really wonderful and what a great variety of hydrangeas at that flower market. The pictures of the inside of Notre Dame are impressive even with dim light.
Congratulations to Shellagh on winning your fabulous giveaway!
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Julia
Great photos Tracey, I loved journey you took us on. That spot on the photo I truly believe they are angels, I have had several pop up on mine at certain locations. Some times people say they are orbs, and that there is a book about them. How fun to stumble on to that flower market. I remember when I was in Germany three years ago, I stumble upon an open air market, what an experience. Happy Spring. Florence
This will be the closest I ever get... Just lovely... Oh my those plants... I recieved my magazine and have taken inspiration and done a couple projects from it ....

I remember Notre Dame on my visit. Don't know if you will go across the Seine to see St Louie and St Chapelle, but I hope you are able too. They are really quite fabulous.
While in Paris, I learned that Paris actually began on these little Islands not on the main part of Paris as we know it today. Just a little history for ya!!
Blessings,
Jo

Oh and well done to Shelley. How lucky is she. What a wonderful giveaway. She will be in heaven when she receives it. I'm looking forward to more images of your Paris trip. XXXX
Didn't you have an icecream at 'Amorino'? You have several in Paris, they have the best! But I think we have the best 'crêpes' here in Flanders, with dark Belgian chocolate, much better than Nutella ;o)

I'm so envious and your photos are fantastic. We were there for three months last year and stayed in Paris a couple of times. I adore the flower market you've included, exactly where is it in relation to Notre Dame? I adore the french flower shops they have something special about them. Would love to hear back please. I've just posted my first blog, I feel very unworthy to be amongst such professionals.
T, Darling,

oh Tracey, i have so enjoyed reading about your trip to Paris, would dearly love to go there with my husband, maybe one day!
alicia
Very wonderful photos! That trip must be very exciting. And that Nutella crepes looks so delicious.
I was a mere 20 year old on my first trip to Paris. As an art student I naturally wanted to see Notre Dame Cathedral. It was a profound experience which helped me to see how the miracle of faith can inspire simple people to do great and important things. It was built by peasants who would never even live to see it's completion, but whose trust and love of God inspired them to create it. Great art and great saints (like Therese) help me to believe.
You have an exquisite blog! Merci!
stop by my blog to pick up your award!!
What beautiful pictures. It looks like you had a wonderful trip. Such a lucky lady... I'm so waiting for the day that I can go.
I am amazed each and every day that I move from blog to blog that there are so many creative women who post such gorgeous pictures and inspirations. I am so glad I found you, and I really don't know how I got here, but I started at Between Naps on the Porch.
This is a truly beautiful blog.
