Hello my friends! I thought I'd never get this sneak peek of my family room up! I have been terribly sick with an unrelenting cough and so have my girls, so taking pictures has not been at the top of my list this week. But, finally, I did manage to snap some pictures of one corner of the room where we put up an old mantel that I fell in love with...it has the perfect amount of chippy grey paint on it {don't worry, I did seal it!}...
As you can see, I decided to go with a light grey for the floors as this is a high traffic room...I am so happy with how they turned out! This room flows right into the kitchen, which is just beyond the mantel.
My flowering branches are just beginning to open. I have 2 old sap buckets full of them in the room right now to give things a bit of much needed Spring cheer...
I topped the mantel with some of my favorite things...
A lovely little French clock from Maria's new shop...
A stack of old books topped off with some of my French letter collection...
I tucked one of my vintage French ledger pages and a very old print of Paris that I bought at the flea market last month into an old frame {I love the patina on this frame}...
...and old reels of film from the 20's complete the mantel...at least for now, I'm sure I will change this out often :))
In the reflection of this mirror, you can see part of the other side of the family room where I have set up a "craft" table for the kids...
I will be back next week to show you the rest of the room...I am almost done...we still need to hang the curtains and finish painting the tv cabinet, but other than that this project is finally winding down!
I'd like to acknowledge some great sources that helped me complete the look I was going for in this room...
Diane Passi {one of my favorite vendors at the Kane County Flea Market...for those of you on Facebook, you can check Diane's page for where her amazing finds can be found}
Enjoy your weekend!!!

I'm so sorry you and your girls have been under the weather, but what a beautiful room to watch old movies in and recuperate!
Speaking of old movies...I love those old reels!
Debbie
Hope you feel better soon.
Your room is simply gorgeous. I could just stay there all day.
I love your home, but can you let me know what you used to seal your mantel? I have an old chippy, peeling cupboard with the best old green paint and I don't want it to completely fall off. Thanks in advance. Hope you and your girls feel better soon. Knock on wood I haven't been sick at all this winter. Of course it gets better when the kids are grown and stop bringing hone germs they pick up everywhere.
Total perfection! Hope that cough goes away soon - I have had the same thing for a month and it gets so annoying! Feel better so you can finish your room!
This really looks wonderful! Your old frames are amazing and the buds just opening are beautiful! Well if you have to be sick, this would be a wonderful place to curl up under a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea! Hope you feel better!
Megan

I love the vintage pieces on the mantel. Very creative! Where did you find the mantel frame? One of my projects for 2011 is to create a faux fireplace and I was thinking of just building a mantel...

Tracey I hope you get better soon, I was up myself all night coughing, but have to go into work, I have clients coming in and it can't be helped. They'll have to see me all drugged up on cold meds. As I was scrolling down to make a comment on your gorgeous room, I noticed your follower count is at 2222, how cool is that? It will prob change in an instant, but if you're reading it, you may want to look :) Now onto the room, simply stunning. I love that it's soft, and calming. Serene. The little mantle is so pretty and it's not over done at all. Love your style, xoxo tami
Simply Gorgeous! That mantle is dreamy along with everything you put on it.. And your floors look awesome! Love those flowering branches too!
Lovely, as usual! That fireplace mantle is just gorgeous against the white wall!
Tracey, your room is absolutely beautiful and inspiring! I personally adore the contrasts of the darker mantel/vintage stool with the pale creams - lovely! I was so thrilled to open my dashboard and see you gave us a peek.. I'll admit, I've waited with baited breath for this post. :) Your flowering branches in the bucket are the perfect compliment the space. I love that you went with grey for the floor - everything looks magazine beautiful and way nicer than most interiors I see in magazines. I hope you will be feeling well very soon.. keep warm.. it's so cold here!
Lara

The room looks great, love the mantel and all the details you put into decorating it :)
Thank you for responding to me so quickly! I will definitely look into the one you use. My MIL gifted me with a Nikon 12.1 megapixels - 15x zoom L110 for Christmas - it's a pretty sophisticated point and shoot and I am really loving it, but I am ready for a dslr. I am working on a photography project for a soap company right now, so i am hoping to get the savings for a new camera going soon.. yay!! :) Take care and I love your photos today!!
Lara

My 3, well they are 5 now & everywhere I look are spiderman stickers or better yet crayon marks. One of them even decided to change the grout color in our entry to periwinkle blue. You children must be very well behaved! Love everything you do! Lisa
