Hello! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! Yesterday we went over to my mom's house for Memorial Day and to celebrate her birthday...today is her actual birthday...
while I was there I snapped a few pictures of her lovely guest bedroom as the sun was streaming in...
My mom's style is more traditional than mine, but our love of decorating is the same! I always say that I inherited the "decorating gene" from my mom...and I am so grateful that I did :))
I also inherited my love for changing and rearranging the house from my mom...in high school it was not uncommon to come home from school and find the furniture rearranged in any given room! As of late, it is bedding and curtains that my mom loves to switch out. She has a wonderful eye for colors and patterns and how to make a room interesting.
I love that my mom and I have the connection of decorating. She will often call me up just to talk about something that she changed out in one of her rooms...and I think that's so fun!
In short, my mom taught me how to decorate...how to have a love of my home and a passion for making it a special place for me and my family...
...and I consider that a very special gift!

My Mom was much the same...traditional with a lovely sense of color and style. Her Florida home was all done in the same soft shade of blue...The home I grew up in was a pale celery green...very sophisticated but a comfortable home. It is lovely to see how much you appreciate your Mom and the gift of your special relationship. Happy Birthday to your Mom...it's a beautiful room! :)

Your Mom's guest room is so beautiful Tracey. Traditional but I also see some mod touches to it. You and her definitely have the eye for beauty! But the truth is, with your excellent photographing skills, every photo you take is just breathtaking.

i too have the gene from my mom but she had passed away too young 48 yrs old i thought who am i going to talk to about the love of decorating but i have found my best two friends my daughters they also recieved the gene from my mom through me and i know that this will follow to their daughters and they will continue the love of decorating xoxo sherri

The guestroom is so nice. Every guest will feel so welcome. I had to smile when i read your post, because my mum was just the same. She always moved the furnitures around, so you could nerver be sure where to find the sofa or the chairs after school.

I know people have already said this, but 1. the room is beautiful, and I love everything on your blog too! Vintage and the French styles are very much my thing too! Every post makes me really happy!
But I also wanted to say that my mom and I are like that too. She loves my designs, and I love hers, but we are both very different. :) It's cool there are other mother/daughter designers out there. :)
I love the pillow case on the last pillow. Vintage blue is a beautiful color.
I was just thinking, looking at another blog, that I should take pictures of my mom's home cause she has everything that all the bloggers like: antiques, Scandinavian (she's from Sweden), old brass and silver items and much more. Thanks for the great idea.
