Home and Garden

Happy weekend everyone!  I almost never post on the weekends, but I have a quiet house all to myself for a few hours so I thought I would post some pictures I've taken over the last few days...

As Summer fades into Fall, the days here in the Midwest have cooled off nicely and I have had the opportunity to do a little gardening and baking...two things I absolutely love to do!!

Around the garden, my reliable self-sowers are still going strong and blooming nicely, while most other things are petering out...

my verbena bonariensis is still growing like crazy...

gomphrena...

dill...

and cosmos...

Yesterday I made some pumpkin bread and today I made zucchini bread.  I still have zucchini in my garden so I thought I would bake and freeze some mini loaves for later in the Fall and Winter...

Lately I have been using the recipe I found *HERE*

I modify it by using 3 cups of zucchini and use 1 cup of regular sugar and 1 cup of dark brown sugar instead of all regular sugar for a little more flavor.  The recipe will make about 4 - 5 mini loaves depending on how much you fill your pans {bake for about 45 minutes but check after 30}.  It freezes very nicely!

By doing the work now, while I have fresh zucchini from the garden, I can pull a loaf out of the freezer and have it ready quickly for gift giving or as a small hostess gift later in the year when I need it...

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!

Please stop back on Monday morning for a wonderful giveaway :))

Tracey -
Lovin' this weather! Your flowers look gorgeous and the bread very yummy. Good job with the pictures, staged very nicely. That measuring cup reminds me of the one my mom used to have. I wonder what happened to it. Looking forward to your giveaway.

Ah, I LOVE zucchini bread! It's a favorite of mine but I haven't had it in ages. My mom bakes it to perfection, I'll have to see about her making some for me the next time I am there...or maybe I'll be brave enough to try making it myself!

Oooh, it looks yummy Tracey. It is a great time of year to get into the 'baking' mindframe. I'm loving the cool mornings and crisp air. My little girl and I baked banana bread yesterday, too. Thanks for the link for the zucchini bread recipe!

That tin measuring cup brought back memories for me, haven't seen one like that for a long time. There's just something so satisfying about having loaves of zuchinni bread freshly baked and beautiful blooming flowers for cutting outside. I totally love this post! xoxo ~Lili

The bread looks wonderful too. Our zucchini is going nuts over here, so I need to be baking this yummy bread as well.
