Art on the Farm

Well I'm off to Denver very early tomorrow morning to go and visit my beautiful, talented friend pictured above,  Jeanne Oliver!  I can't wait to spend 4 whole days with "the girls"...Jen and Traci are going with me and my best friend Natasha just happens to live 40 minutes from Jeanne!!

And speaking of Jeanne and Jen, I wanted to let all of you who live in the Chicagoland area know that these two wonderful girls will be teaching some amazing art classes at the next Na-Da Farm Sale in October...

Come spend some time on Anne Marie's lovely farm... a little shopping and then attend an art class or two!  I will be :))

Jen will be teaching a reflections on the prairie mixed-media art class on Saturday morning, October 8th from 9am - 11am  {$38}

Here's a little about Jen's class:

Bring your coffee and join in on a two hour class where we will create a mixed-media mirrored art piece made from a magnifying glass using vintage botanical prints,typography, twine, paper, text, decoupage and the inspiration of the peaceful surroundings. It starts with a 15 minute prairie walk/meditation to gather inspiration. Suitable for all skill levels, each student will leave with a completed, unique art piece.

After Jen's class, Jeanne will be teaching two classes...

I took Jeanne's art class at the last Na-Da Sale and had so much fun!  I really look forward to taking the two new classes she will be offering!!
Here's a little about her classes:

Vintage Art Journal Class {12-2:30}

You will take a variety of vintage elements and create a beautiful and usable art/writing journal. You will start with a vintage book and alter it to include vintage elements that make it reflect your own personal style. Each journal will be full of vintage papers and watercolor paper. All supplies will be provided but you are free to bring anything personal you would like to add. You will learn how to stamp onto metals and leathers, different photo transfer processes and mixed media techniques. You will also learn beginning art journaling techniques so you can start filling your journal with your own art. All of my classes give clear step by step directions. Even if you have never created art before you will leave with not only a new piece of art but the knowledge to continue your own art at home.

$58 {$50 if taken with the vintage mixed media art class}

Vintage Mixed Media Art Class {3-5:00}

You will take a canvas and vintage elements to create a finished mixed media art piece. Each piece will include vintage papers, charcoal, pencil, paint and vintage hardware. You will learn different photo transfer processes, mixed media techniques and how to use water soluble pencils to create beautiful art. All supplies will be provided. You will leave with a completed vintage mixed media art piece on a door plate (escutcheon) stand. All of my classes give clear step by step directions. Even if you have never created art before you will leave with not only a new piece of art but the knowledge to continue your own art at home.

$58 {$50 if taken with the vintage art journal class}

** For more information or to sign up for Jeanne's classes, email her at **

Jen and Jeanne will also be teaching an avenue to an artful business mini-class on Friday evening {October 7th} either one of them for more information on the class!

I hope you all enjoy the long Labor Day weekend ahead!!!

Farmhouse Table Setting

Good morning!  I'm back after a little break...I needed to spend some time focusing on my kids and getting them ready to go back to school!  I now have a first grader, a fourth grader and a little one who will be starting preschool after Labor Day!!  I still can't believe how the Summer just flew by!  I'm not quite ready to think "Fall" just yet.

I realized the other day that I never shared with you one of the outdoor table settings I did earlier in the here are some of the pics I took of my farmhouse inspired table setting...

I'm still loving {and using} my monogram mugs all the time...

I reused the lovely torn fabric ribbon that Jeanne used to wrap up a package I bought from her shop to add a bit of color to the napkins...

...and I used some of the empty French jam jars to hold herbs from my garden at each place setting...we eat a lot of this jam over here :))

I used mint, thyme, oregano, and lemon thyme...

I'd love to hear what you all have been up to while I've been so absent!

Happy new week!!!

Flea Market Finds

Hello!  Happy almost weekend!  As promised, I have some pictures of a few of the flea market finds I brought home with me last weekend...

I have been reading a lot of photography books lately and challenging myself to improve, which basically means trying to understand my camera's abilities and settings better...and practicing more :)

I have been playing with light and how it affects photography lately.  While I am and always will be a big fan of light and bright {and, yes, slightly overexposed} photos, it's interesting to see how shadows and colors change at different exposures.

This great vintage fly catcher is perfect paired with some verbena bonariensis that grows like crazy all over my garden...

I picked up a pair of these old grey chairs...remember I told you I have a small obsession with vintage chairs!  The price was right, and, well, sturdy wooden chairs like these are just so versatile for inside and out that I had to buy them...

A very large cube of French soap to add to my collection...

...and a wonderful vintage French tip plate!

{the fly catcher, soap, and tip plate were a few of the things I picked up from Lisa's booth, the one I featured in my previous post}

I always pick up old bottles in this beautiful aqua color if I find them at a reasonable price {they can sometimes be rather pricey}...I just love this one...

And lastly for today...some more vintage botanical prints...

I have more to show you, but alas, this was all I had time to photograph.

So what fabulous flea market finds have you scored lately???

Enjoy your weekend ~

p.s. the all new book from Jeanne d' Arc Living, "Amazing Retreats," is now available for pre-order in the SHOP!

The Frenchman's Wife

Hello my friends!  I brought my camera with me to the flea market this past weekend for the first time in a long time, specifically so that I could snap some photos to share with you of one of my favorite booths...

I am in love with Lisa's style of mixing vintage, industrial and European...

Lisa is so very talented at display!  I am always in awe and practically drooling when I visit her lovely booth!!  She stocks her booth with many vintage European goodies, something that is so very hard to find here in the Midwest.

This month there were lots of old crates, cutting boards with the most perfect patina, French soaps, commercial kitchen wares, homespun French gowns, and so much more!!

Lisa has such a talent for stacking and piling items in a way that makes even simple items, like these vintage wine glasses, look so very pretty!

Lisa can be found at the Kane County Flea Market the first weekend of every month, in the Expo West building...

she also writes the blog The Frenchman's Wife, visit her *HERE*

I will show you some of what I  picked up in an upcoming post :)

Happy Tuesday ~
