lily of the valley

Hello!

I'm sorry I've been so absent lately, but things are a little hectic over here, with recently getting back from Savannah and now preparing to leave next weekend for Belgium and France...so my posting will probably be a little sporadic for the first part of May.

I did want to share a few photos of the lily of the valley I picked recently from my garden.  I love, love, love this sweet little flower...

...in large part, because it reminds me of my childhood, as we always had a lot of lily of the valley at our house and my parents still grow it in their garden.

When we first moved in our current home, my mom gave me some starter plants from her garden and I now have a nice patch of it on the shady side of the house.

I filled the little vintage jars on my daughter Caighton's dresser with some lily of the valley earlier today and snapped a few pics.  There is a picture of my mom as a baby on her dresser, which seemed perfect :)

{my mom doesn't have a blog, but she does have a beautiful page on Pinterest...I know she would love for you to check it out! ~ you can find her *HERE*}

The photo below is still one of my favorites...lily of the valley was in bloom {at my parent's house} when my oldest daughter, Halena, was making her first communion a few years ago and it seemed the perfect flower to use for her photos!

Have a lovely weekend!!!

Tracey

I can so relate to this post! They are my favorite flowers and my parents always had them, in fact my mom just picked me some the other day while I was there. Such a beautiful flower...and smells so sweet! My 9 month old daughter was learning how to smell them...it was so adorable. Beautiful pictures!!

Understand completely. It's difficult juggling everything especially when you are trying to wrap things up so that you can head out of town with a clean slate and enjoy your time away.
So miss having the magazine...it's tough to find in France for whatever reason.
Do you offer personal hand delivery in France during your vacation ;0) ?
Enjoy the anticipation of coming back to the brocantes!

I love lily of the valley. It reminds me, too, of my childhood in Germany! On mother's day my little sister and I would trek into the forest behind our house and pick a huge bouquet for mama :)

I don't think I have ever had the privilege of seeing this delicate white flower in a garden. You are so blessed. Beautiful photos as always. How amazing you are going to Belgium and France! I saw your home in the April issue of JDA(I purchased it from Sandy to help her out, but will come back to ordering from you!). I cannot afford every issue and was going to wait for June, but Oh this May issue looks lovely. I am a newly confirmed Catholic(was confirmed last easter) and my youngest son(he's 16) was just confirmed this easter. A beautiful moment.

Ah...beautiful post Tracey. My lily of the valley have not bloomed yet...any day now. Hopefully I will be on my feet again and able to take some photos too. It really is such an old fashioned and sweet flower. Ours have taken over the entire garden under the dogwoods. So pretty! :)
Your photos in the old inkwells are stunning!...as usual :)

My lily of the valley is blooming right now. It came from starts that my Dad brought me, who got it from my uncle. I've never thought to bring it in for a little bouquet! Going to snip a few stems!

It's funny - Lilly of the Valley also reminds me of my own childhood growing up in England. We had lots of it in our garden, although I rarely see it now. I remember that the smell of it was absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for such a lovely post - You've inspired me to hunt it down and try my hand at growing some of my own! Have a great weekend. x

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Lily of the Valley is the sweetest little flower, but boy can it take over a garden! I think it would take over the world if it were allowed! Luckily it smells and displays so nicely or I would not find it nearly as appealing as I do ; )

Your images are oh so lovely, Tracey!

Beautiful photos! My grandmother had Lilies of the Valley all along her back fence, I loved them. They're called Muguet in French, and people give little bouquets of them to the women in their lives on May 1. So sweet! Have a great time in Belgium and France!!

Your images of the lilies of the valley take me back to my childhood too. I can almost smell them. It's almost as good as being able to grow them myself (I can't in our climate). Thank you!

They are my favorite. When we moved to Florida, I was sad to never see them in the spring again. One year, my son went north and brought me some he had dug up, thinking they'd grow here. :( So adorable of him.

Lovely photos! My lily of the valley is just budding here in the north. Seeing yours makes me want mine to hurry up! Can't wait to pick some and have them in the house.
