lily of the valley

I'm sorry I've been so absent lately, but things are a little hectic over here, with recently getting back from Savannah and now preparing to leave next weekend for Belgium and my posting will probably be a little sporadic for the first part of May.

I did want to share a few photos of the lily of the valley I picked recently from my garden.  I love, love, love this sweet little flower... large part, because it reminds me of my childhood, as we always had a lot of lily of the valley at our house and my parents still grow it in their garden.

When we first moved in our current home, my mom gave me some starter plants from her garden and I now have a nice patch of it on the shady side of the house.

I filled the little vintage jars on my daughter Caighton's dresser with some lily of the valley earlier today and snapped a few pics.  There is a picture of my mom as a baby on her dresser, which seemed perfect :)

{my mom doesn't have a blog, but she does have a beautiful page on Pinterest...I know she would love for you to check it out! ~ you can find her *HERE*}

The photo below is still one of my favorites...lily of the valley was in bloom {at my parent's house} when my oldest daughter, Halena, was making her first communion a few years ago and it seemed the perfect flower to use for her photos!

Have a lovely weekend!!!

Around the City in Savannah

I wanted to show you a quick snapshot of beautiful Savannah from my trip last weekend!

Part of the joy for me in going on vacation, is being able to take pictures...I love just wandering around a city, taking in the sights, and snapping photos!!  I'm a total camera nerd and I don't mind a bit :)

Natasha kept saying that we "hit the weather jackpot," as we had the most spectacular weather for the 4 days we were in Savannah!!  What a glorious city!

We stayed right in the Historic District and just walked around all day and then sat poolside with a cocktail before heading out to dinner...I miss it already :))

The best part of this trip was getting to spend kid-free, relaxed time with my best friend.  Natasha and I have known each other for 20 years now and there is just such an ease to traveling with someone you have known for a long time.  Really good friends are such a blessing in life and I thank God every single day for my amazing friend Natasha!

Have a great weekend ~

p.s.  the new Jeanne d' Arc Living cookbook, The Best Recipes, is now in stock and is beautiful!  It would make a lovely Mother's Day gift :)

lilacs and Salvaged Wood Projects

Happy Thursday!

I can never get enough of lilacs when they are in season...I just love them so much!  But, sadly, they do not last long.  I do have a Miss Kim lilac bush that always blooms later than the traditional lilac bushes, so at least I will get a whole new bunch of fragrant blooms again here in a few weeks!!

I am also anxiously waiting for my lily of the valley to bloom! :)

I was inspired recently by all of the painted white fruit crates at Anthropologie.  I wanted to try and make my own version, so I asked my husband for a little help in turning one of our remaining pallets {left over from a shipment from Europe} into this handy little storage box!

{you can see the table we made out of an old pallet, *HERE*, in my dining room post and the salvaged wood desk we built for my daughter, *HERE*}

Steve pried up the boards off of the pallet and then I sanded the rough wood down a bit and gave them a quick swipe with some white paint.  I kept all of the original nail holes as I love the rustic quality of the wood, and I used minimal paint so as not to hide the wonderful exposed wood grain.

After a few quick cuts {hubby handled that part}, we fired up the nail gun {those things scare the heck out of me but they sure are handy} and were ready to assemble the extremely simple design we chose for this box/tray!!

For a little added interest, I glued one of the vintage French labels I brought back from the Paris flea markets last October onto the front of the box...

I'm so happy with how it turned out, that I think I will make another one in a slightly different shape!

I plan to use this one in the kitchen, but I shot it in my studio for better lighting at that time of day.

...and a little Photoshop fun...

{need help learning how to use Photoshop and textures, visit Kim Klassen, she really does have a wealth of knowledge on her site}

Enjoy your weekend!!

I am headed to Savannah for 4 days with my best friend this weekend :)
