Well, we finally took the plunge this weekend...
We began phase one of painting our first floor hardwood flooring. As I type this, the kitchen and my studio are done and drying!! Yay! I hope to have some photos next week, after everything is dry and I can put the rooms back together :)
The plan is to extend the pale grey color we used on the dining room floor 2 years ago {seen above} to the entire first floor! Everything will be complete in about 2 weeks, when we finish up with the foyer, powder room and family room.
I know, I know, it's a big decision to paint over hardwood floors...and believe me, I have heard the opinions of those opposed to painting over hardwood! But I have been dreaming of doing this for a few years now! I have not liked how my oak floors have really started to turn more orange with each year that passes. More than that though, I just truly love the look of painted floors and am giddy with excitement to be doing this!! Thank you to my beloved husband for all of his hard work and cooperation.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!!
Tracey

It will be glorious! Your husband is a gem...mine is too...but painting over hardwoods would be beyond his understanding! lol...I know exactly what you mean about that orange creeping in and I know the results will be stunning. Can't wait to see it finished! :)
Painted floors are beautiful and easy to maintain! We have them throughout our house and I love 'em. Can't wait to see when you're done! Love the color you chose.
You've made the right decision...they're gorgeous! Can't wait to see more... ":o)
You go Girl! I have been a fan of painted floors since I was a kid spending summer in a boathouse on a lake....I appreciate wood in all it's glory but, BLEH to orange, it's not natural! :)
WOW...
Gorgeous..
I had painted floors on the second floor of our farmhouse for years and loved the look - easy to keep too.
We have sold the farm and I wonder if they remain.
You will not regret this decision.

I too am in love with painted floors. I have been searching the internet for tutorials but can't come up with any user friendly ones. I hope you plan do a tutorial along with the reveal. I can't wait....(smile!)

They look wonderful! If I had an older home...I'd do it too! Are you using a deck paint?
Your floors look amazing!! Oh my, I can hardly wait to see the finished project. Are they just as easy to keep clean as the oak was? Do the scratches and dings just add more character? I am just drooling over here at the beauty of them. Please share the rest soon!!

Good for you, they look beautiful. I can't wait for my issure to arrive.
Did you use deck paint??
Cynthia
Thank you everyone for your support and positive encouragement!!!!!!! I will try and put a quick tutorial together and also answer some common questions about painted floors for next week when I show pics!
We are using Valspar latex porch and floor paint for those of you asking. The color is called New Concrete.
:) Tracey
I can see why you wanted the floors painted. Your dining room is beautiful! Look forward to seeing your newly painted floors.
Have a Wonderful Day,
Suzanne
Can't wait to see the finished results...I'm sure they will be beautiful!!
More power to you! The gray looks lovely, and it makes you happy...period!
so looking forward to the pics!! i love painted hardwood!! so happy for you!
We also painted our hardwood floors but just the bedrooms. The first time around we used white. They lasted a few years and looked great but they are really hard to keep clean and of course they scratch. We have recently re painted them a pretty pale aqua that the kids wanted for their rooms. They look amazing but the same old dull stains are already coming through. I think dust and residue from cleaning products and dyes from socks etc. seem to easily stain after a period of time. I'm not sure what type of paint you are using but we were recently told that paving paint would be better. We used tough exterior paint this time but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I will be interested to see how your floors look and last. I don't miss the wooden patina at all. Good luck with them and have have decorating.
Blessings and hugs
We took the plunge a couple of years ago and love it! You will too, for sure!
Tracey,
When you said it was your dream to paint the oak, girl you are living my dream, and this is my plan, I am in the mist of working on wood planks and painting floors for my home yet will have to wait a bit longer, when Fifi asked if she could come shoot my home I put her off until she would not take no any longer. I wanted this little cottage to have those perfectly imperfect painted floors. If I was your neighbor, or shopping buddy I would be rooting you on to paint your heart out on all the wood you can find in your home.
More then anyone I am so jealous in a good way that you are having your dream floors :)
I have a friend here and hers have chipped a bit, and I love them even that much more.
Please hurry and show off those floors.
See you soon, you are on my side bar of inspiration and I will not miss your unvailing of your wood floor painting announcement.
Get back to painting, see you soon

How exciting Tracey!!! I would love to have painted wood floors in my home.
I look forward to seeing it when it's completed!
Wishing you a beautiful day.
Sincerely,

Oh you brave girl Tracey! I absolutely adore the look of light painted floors. Your home's beauty will shine even more with the new look.
Wish we could do that, but my husband wouldn't be keen on that idea. Maybe he should have a chat with yours. :)
Can't wait to see the result!
xo, Susan
I can't wait to see the results and read the tutorial.
it will be beautiful!!!
Well...your hubby is certainly one of a kind, Tracey! So many men are scared to death of painting anything - much less wood floors. lol! I can hardly wait for the big reveal! :)
xoxo laurie
You said a pale grey....what paint are you using? I am curious.

It will look pretty.
I have mix of stained concrete and epoxy gray concrete and it looks pretty with the painted furniture.
WOW, can't wait to see the photos. I'm sure it's going to look wonderful=0)

Oh how exciting!! I am not a frequent commenter but look in often. I would soo love to have painted hardwood...like others say...not the hubby. Mine either need completely sanded and stained, or painted due to years of fading. Can't wait to see the completed project.
I have thought of this many times too! In fact we've thought of painting just the subfloor some day...if we don't have hardwood under the existing carpeting.
With today's paint and non-yellowing sealants, painted floors are great if that's the look you like. I painted our old 70's green vinyl kitchen floor in our former home...LOVED it!
Can't wait to see your finished floors!
I cannot wait to see the after and get all of your sources and tips. I too have have floors with an orange tinge that I do not care for. I may paint my closet floor first since it's isolated from the other hardwoods and see how it goes.
Hurry hurry!!
Can't wait to see them!! Bless husbands!! We bought our dream home 11 years ago and it's 182 years old. My hubby has been amazing too!!!
I have oak floors in the dining room and living room, but the hall and bedrooms are a different wood - house was built in 1928. I have never thought about painting the hall and bedrooms, but it is a possibility. Thanks for getting my wheels turning.
Love how you're willing to go against the grain (pardon the pun) and to paint your floors. Bet it's gonna be fabulous. You have great taste.
